Poul Kjaerholm (1929-1980) was a Danish designer, renowned for his modernist steel, leather and glass furniture. He studied furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, and is considered a leading figure in industrial modernism for his work as a designer, no less than as a teacher in the institution where he studied. Kjaerholm’s career as a furniture designer was a short one, but his exquisite craftsmanship and innovative designs have resulted in global acclaim which lasts to this day. Kjaeholm’s designs can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and other museum collections in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Germany.
