Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898-1995) was a German-born American photographer and photojournalist known for his street photography and for his candid black-and-white shots of celebrities and politicians. He began his career as a freelance photojournalist, and later became a resident photographer for LIFE, where, throughout his career, he published many powerful photographic essays. His work is displayed in New York, at MoMA, the International Center of Photography, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, and at the Philadelphia College of Art.
